The father of Elon Musk has opened up on how he was previously charged with murder after killing three men. , 79, was later acquitted of the crime as he claimed to have "taken out" the men in "self-defense".
Speaking to on What Just Happened, Errol explained: "I heard some noise in the lounge and when I went up to the lounge, without any weapon or anything, there were seven or eight men in the lounge and they just opened fire on me straight away." Kevin could be heard exclaiming: "Oh God," as Errol continued. "I ran back down the passage and got my weapon," he said. "And as they came down the passage, I took three of them out." Kevin asked: "And you were tried for that?"
Errol then admitted that he was "charged with murder". He explained: "It was a sort of pre-trial, or something like that with the . And a police woman tried to help me and she told me not to lose my temper and not to say anything clever, or anything like that.
"At one point, the Magistrate, who was a white man, said, 'Well, couldn't you have used less violence?' And I said you know, 'they fired 52 shots at me and I fired two shots.' I don't think that's violence on my part."
Perplexed, Kevin asked how the father of had managed to kill three men with just two shots. Errol replied: "Well, it was a magnum so..." The TalkTV host gasped: "A magnum, like in the movies? The most powerful handgun?"
Errol replied: "It's very powerful, yes, extremely powerful. And the noise from it is gross. After the event, with their shooting and my shooting in a close space, the police said to me that I was going to have hearing loss. And, as it happens, I lost hearing in my right ear."
Trying to find out more about the killings, Kevin asked: "So when you said about having a powerful gun and there were three men, did one of the bullets go through one and then into the other? Is that what happened?"
Nonchalantly, Errol replied: "Yes," as he nodded his head. Kevin responded in shock as he said: "Good lord." Musk then confirmed that he was acquitted of the murders "on the basis of self-defense" as he was "protecting his six-year-old daughter".
He shared: "She saw the whole thing. She told me that she could remember how we were able to escape. They shot the windows out so we were able to climb out through the shot windows and we were able to hide in the grass outside, some shrubs and grass. She remembers how we were lay in the grass and they were searching for us while we were laying in the grass."
