A video clip from the recent Cannes Film Festival featuring actors Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, and Vishal Jethwa has gone viral, sparking widespread criticism online. The trio was in Cannes for the screening of their film, Homebound, and while they participated in multiple interviews, one particular interaction has drawn sharp condemnation for what many viewers perceive as disrespectful behavior.
Viral Video Shows Alleged Disregard
In the controversial video, Ishaan Khatter is seen actively engaging with a journalist, answering a question. However, Janhvi Kapoor and Vishal Jethwa, seated directly beside him, appear to be absorbed in their own private conversation. Janhvi is seen whispering into Vishal's ear, to which he responds, seemingly oblivious to Ishaan's ongoing interview, despite being part of the same media interaction.
Online Backlash and Public Reactions
The video quickly circulated on X (formerly Twitter), drawing a wave of negative comments. One user expressed their frustration, writing, "Honestly, when someone is giving an interview, the other person should have the courtesy to not keep whispering, it's a bit disrespectful to the person speaking." Another user sharply commented, "This is hella disrespectful. Ishan run." The sentiment of disapproval was echoed by many, with one angry user stating, "Want to school them like a teacher seriously. 5 minute bad mein krlena baatein bhai. Jindgi bhar ka nhi h interview." Other comments included concise but pointed remarks like, "Manners are missing," and "This is so rude of them."
Homebound's Acclaimed Cannes Screening
Despite the online controversy surrounding the actors' interaction, their film Homebound received significant acclaim at its world premiere during the 77th Cannes Film Festival. The Hindi film, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and starring Ishaan, Vishal, and Janhvi, was reportedly met with a remarkable nine-minute standing ovation, lauded for its powerful storytelling and emotional depth.
The film's premiere saw the presence of producer Karan Johar, as well as Janhvi Kapoor's father Boney Kapoor and sister Khushi Kapoor, alongside other members of the film's creative team. Homebound is also produced by Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, with legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese serving as an executive producer, further elevating its international profile.
