Gautam gambhir: The Indian cricket team will play a five -Test series on the tour of England in June. The BCCI announced an 18-member team on Saturday, on which mixed reactions from the cricket world and fans were seen. Middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer’s name was the most discussed in this team selection, whose exclusion of the team was to many people.

Iyer performed well in recent domestic and international matches, yet he was kept out of the team. Several questions were asked from the selectors on this decision. At the same time, when the head coach of Team India Gautam Gambhir was asked about Iyer’s ignoring, he said, "I am not selector." On this statement, now former Indian fast bowler Atal Vasan has done a spicy satire by taking a pinch.

In the 12th episode of the show ‘Bails and Banter’ to be aired on the Ottplay app, Atal Vasan reacted to Gambhir’s statement, saying, saying, ” "They do not select, only reject." Vasan also clarified that the coach has an important role in the team selection and the selectors also give importance to the coach’s opinion.

Vasan further said, "The coach has a role in the team selection, the selectors listen to them." He also added that if Gambhir has been given the responsibility of the coach, then he has the right to support the players on the basis of his spirit, whether the decision is right or wrong. Vasan said, "If they have been given this position, then I think they have the right to go with their feeling, whether it is right or wrong."

Shreyas Iyer’s performance

Shreyas Iyer has scored a total of 811 runs in 14 Tests, including a brilliant century against New Zealand on debut and then a half -century. Apart from this, 92 runs against Sri Lanka and 86 and 87 runs against Bangladesh respectively, India pulled India out of difficult situation.

Short ball weakness became the reason?

The weakness against his short ball is being considered a major reason behind Iyer’s exit from the team. Short pitch balls will be thrown by fast bowlers in Tests played with Duke ball in England, and in view of this challenge, the team management may not give them a chance in the Test team yet.

During the Birmingham Test in 2022, England coach Brendon McCallum adopted a short ball strategy, pointing to his bowlers, strangling his bowlers, and Iyer was dismissed for 15 and 19 runs as a victim of that strategy.

Iyer’s threat is maintained in white ball

Although Iyer’s position in Test cricket is not clear at the moment, his performance in white ball cricket has been great. He played excellent innings in the 2023 World Cup and the Champions Trophy held in February-March this year.

After being excluded from the BCCI’s Central Contract list, it is believed that Iyer may have to wait a little longer to return to the Test team. It is likely that he may get a chance again in the domestic Test series to be held at the end of 2025.
