A video from IPL 2025 Qualifier 1 between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings has sparked controversy on social media. In the clip, Virat Kohli is seen seemingly mocking 20-year-old Punjab Kings batsman Mushir Khan by calling him a “water-giver” — a term often used to belittle junior or less experienced players.

What happened?
The incident occurred during the 9th over of Punjab’s innings, when six wickets had already fallen for just 60 runs. As Mushir Khan walked to the crease as an impact player, Kohli, fielding nearby, was caught on camera saying, “Ye pani pilata hai” (“He just gives water”).

Why is it controversial?
Many fans and viewers found Kohli’s remarks disrespectful, especially given Mushir Khan’s young age and his budding career. The term “water-giver” implies that the player is merely a support figure rather than a serious competitor. This tone felt out of place coming from a senior star like Kohli, who is also known to be a mentor figure.

Interestingly, Mushir had previously received a bat from Kohli, which he proudly shared publicly, showing respect and admiration for the veteran. The apparent mockery has left many questioning the attitude of a cricketing icon towards juniors.
