ICICI Bank has officially discontinued its PayLater service on UPI platforms starting 8 May 2025. The announcement was made through a flash notification on the iMobile app and posted on the bank’s website.

Launched in September 2023the PayLater service allowed users to make purchases on credit and pay later through UPI. This convenience has now come to a complete halt.

No More UPI Transactions via PayLater

All users, regardless of usage history or repayment record, can no longer use PayLater for UPI payments. This includes:

  • Pay buildings
  • Third-party UPI apps

The bank stated the move is based on internal policywith no indication of regulatory reasons for the decision.

Outstanding Dues Must Still Be Paid

If you have an outstanding balance in your PayLater account:

  • Repayment remains mandatory
  • Monthly statements will continue as usual
  • Payments can be made via Pay buildings or Internet Banking using linked accounts

Customers are urged to monitor their accounts to avoid missing payments or incurring penalties.

Auto Pay Users Must Take Action

For those who set up Auto Pay linked to PayLater:

  • You must switch to another payment method immediately
  • Auto Pay transactions will not be processed after the service discontinuation

This is critical to prevent disruptions in essential payments like bills or subscriptions.

Other Services Not Affected

Only PayLater on UPI is being shut down. All other ICICI Bank offerings such as:

  • Credit cards
  • Savings accounts
  • Loans
remain fully operational and unaffected by this change.

Customer Support and Help

ICICI Bank advises users with queries to:

  • Contact via digital platforms
  • Visit the nearest branch for assistance

The bank has promised continued support to help users transition smoothly.

A Strategic Shift in Banking Services

The termination of PayLater on UPI reflects ICICI Bank’s internal strategic shift. As financial services evolve, customers are encouraged to stay informed and adapt to changing payment options to maintain smooth transactions.
