Weather condition: record rain in Delhi

Weather update: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi has experienced historic rains in May this year, which has proved to be the most wet till date. During this time there was 188.9 mm of rain, which makes a new milestone, leaving behind all the previous records. In particular, there was no heatwave in Delhi in May this year, which is the common feature of this month. In addition, heavy rains and floods have been warned in the states of eastern India, especially in North-East and Kerala where red alert has been issued.

Red Alert in North-East

India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Manipur. According to the department, due to pressure on Bangladesh, North-East is receiving heavy rains, which is slowly moving towards the north-eastern states. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains with strong winds (40–60 km/h) and icy rain in these states. Under these circumstances, the state governments have appealed to the people to take necessary steps to be vigilant and to avoid incidents like landslides.

Heavy rain in Kerala too

Kerala received heavy rains in Kannur district on Friday, due to which the water level of Kakkar river increased and waterlogged in many areas. Torrential rains in other districts of the state have affected life, causing waterlogging and traffic obstacles on the roads. According to the Meteorological Department, western winds will remain in Kerala and Lakshadweep region for the next two to three days, which can cause continuous rains in these areas.


The weather of May in Delhi

The weather of May this year in Delhi was unusual. Usually there is a high temperature and heatwave situation in May, but this time neither a heatwave nor the temperature intensity was the same in Delhi. Instead, the process of rain continued due to frequent thunderstorms and storms, which brought relief to Delhiites.
