A review meeting on APGENCO, thermal power projects, hydel projects, and pumped storage projects (PSPs) in the state was led by Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand.
APGENCO’s Managing Director KVN Chakradhar Babu, Directors P Ashok Kumar Reddy and M Sujaya Kumar, Director APTRANSCO AKV Bhaskar, and other high-ranking officials were present at the meeting.
In order to get statutory and MoEF (Ministry of Environment & Forests) permissions for expedited implementation, the Chief Secretary emphasized the significance of timely project execution and the need for interdepartmental collaboration. In order to fulfill the State’s increasing power demand and to guarantee Andhra Pradesh’s energy sustainability, he gave the authorities instructions to keep up the pace in reaching project milestones. He also said that the action plan’s progress for the current power production projects will be evaluated every month.
While other pumped storage projects at Kamalapadu, Yaganti, Rajupalem, Aravetipalli, Gadikota, and Deenepalli were moving through different phases of feasibility studies and DPR preparation, the Chief Secretary said that the 1,350 MW Upper Sileru Pumped Storage Project works had been granted.
He gave APGENCO personnel instructions to start making the required preparations so that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Minister of Energy Gottipati Ravi Kumar may hold the Upper Sileru project’s foundation stone laying ceremony.
The Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of important thermal power projects, stating that ash disposal lines and wet and dry ash evacuation systems were operational. He also gave officials instructions to finish the remaining CHP mechanical and structural work at the Dr. Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station (Stage V: 1×800 MW), with the final commissioning of the mill reject system set for mid-June 2025.
Additionally, the Chief Secretary reported that the balance CHP building projects, including the crusher house and conveyor systems, were moving along smoothly at the Dr. MVR Rayalaseema Thermal Power Plant (Stage IV – 1×600 MW), and that structural steel fabrication and mechanical erection work were being carried out. The tasks are scheduled to be completed and executed on time by
December of 2025.
The Chief Secretary, who was reviewing the Hydel power projects, said that the 960 MW Polavaram Hydro Electric Project is expected to be put into service by
January 2027.
