It's hard to imagine even wildest dreams having imagined such a convincing Premier League title win in his first season as Liverpool boss. Alas, with a 10-point cushion to second-placed Arsenal, from the turn of the year onwards, title number 20 was never really in doubt.

Comfortably the best team in the division this season, it would be easy for Slot and the Liverpool executives to think they've got it all figured out. However, if early rumblings in the transfer window are anything to go by, that couldn't be further from the truth, with it looking like FSG have finally learned from their mistakes.

Rewind to the summer of 2020 when Liverpool last finished a Premier League season as champions. It's safe to say the Reds' business was lacklustre at best. The statement signing that summer came in the shape of Diogo Jota, who moved from Wolves for £41million, with other new arrivals including back-up left-back Konstantinos Tsimikas and an injury-prone Thiago Alcantara.

Hardly the most inspiring of transfer dealings, and on the pitch it showed. Granted, few could've predicted the amount of injuries Jurgen Klopp's side experienced that season, but even still, it was an underwhelming defence of their first title in three decades. The less said about the January additions, the better.

That's seemingly all change this time around though, with it looking like FSG and Liverpool's policy has shifted. Instead of the small tweaks to the squad, Liverpool look like they're strengthening while on top and are hoping to do so by adding some of Europe's most promising talent.

Jeremie Frimpong was tipped to join one of the continent's biggest sides for years ; Milos Kerkez is coming off the back of a stellar Premier League season; Florian Wirtz could walk straight into any team in Europe. If Liverpool get their way, all three will be lining up for the Anfield outfit next term.

In the cutthroat world of Premier League football, there is no time for standing still. The side that find themselves on top have to keep improving, otherwise they'll be swallowed up by the chasing pack.

In a way, that's exactly what happened to four-in-a-row champions Manchester City. They stalled with their rebuild and are now paying the price. It's something Slot, FSG and Liverpool will be keen to ensure doesn't happen to them.
