On Saturday, a significant high tide impacted Siali beach located in the Erasama block of Jagatsinghpur district, leading to flooding along the coast and in nearby parking areas.
The tidal surge pushed seawater approximately 200 meters inland, inundating the parking lot and surrounding regions, according to reports. Local officials and the Meteorological department indicated that this flooding was a result of a low-pressure system that caused the unusually elevated tides.
As a popular tourist spot, Siali beach faced disruptions due to the sudden increase in sea levels, raising alarms among local residents.
Authorities had previously warned of heavy rainfall and high tides affecting Odisha's coastal regions due to shifting weather patterns. Fishermen were advised to refrain from going out to sea during these turbulent conditions.
In light of the situation, the district administration of Jagatsinghpur has swiftly acted by advising both locals and tourists to steer clear of the impacted areas and has intensified coastal safety protocols. Vehicles parked near the shoreline are being relocated to safer areas, as reported.
Residents are calling on the government to establish long-term protective measures.
