A who tragically died after falling into a reservoir has been named by her school in a heartfelt tribute. Qudsiyah Mahmood, 13, fell to her from the parapet at Baitings Reservoir near Ripponden, West Yorkshire at around 1.20pm on Wednesday.
Witnesses reported seeing Qudsiyah take photographs with her father during a half-term stroll. Then the distraught dad began screaming her name and clutching his chest. Qudsiyah was taken from the scene in an ambulance.
Police Regional Marine and Underwater Search units scoured the and a body was discovered on Friday, YorkshireLive reports. The BBC reveals that Qudsiyah's headteacher honoured her in an email dispatched to parents of pupils at Crossley Heath School in Halifax.
In the message, she was portrayed as a "bright, kind and friendly who brought happiness to our school". Headteacher Dean Jones expressed: "Our thoughts and prayers are very much with her family now and always."
Mr Jones assured that fellow students would be provided support in school and staff were "here to listen and help" affected families.
He concluded: "I am ever so sorry to share this news. However, as a I want you to know we are there side by side with Qudsiyah's family, all in our Crossley's school family and our community to offer the best support we can."
Witness Sue Ferris, 80, whose home overlooks Baitings Reservoir, went to comfort the teenager's on Wednesday afternoon after watching the tragedy unfold.
She said: " was posing for photographs before this happened. Her dad had been taking the photographs. It is disgraceful that there are no life buoy rings anywhere on the parapet.
"Yorkshire Water added the white metal railings on top of the stone structure some years ago now," Mrs Ferris told the Sun.
"But it only adds about half a foot to the barrier height and actually helps people to climb onto the wall. It gives them something to grip on to. All it is doing, is helping people to stand on the wall."
Mrs Ferris said told her the teenager wanted to walk around the reservoir with her dad because it was half term. "She had just got into grammar school, they told me. They were very proud of her. She had a really ," Mrs Ferris said.
"Dad had been taking photographs, according to a witness, and he also heard dad screaming and shouting her name after she fell in - but he did not go into the water.
"He had some kind of heart problem and was clutching his chest soon afterwards and was taken away by ambulance," reports .
