Hailakandi, June 1: The medical services in Hailakandi faced significant challenges as the SK Roy Civil Hospital, a crucial healthcare facility serving thousands daily, was overwhelmed by persistent rainfall that has affected the region for the last two days.
Most outpatient services were halted, forcing hospital personnel to set aside their regular tasks and instead focus on cleaning up the flooded areas using mops and buckets to restore essential operations.

As per Monika Das, the District Media Expert from the National Health Mission (NHM) in Hailakandi, the outpatient services were heavily affected due to water accumulation starting early Saturday morning.
Additionally, nearly half of Hailakandi town was submerged, with severely impacted areas including Matijuri Point, Silchar Road, Public School Road, Ashram Road, Bachairkhal, Sirajpatty, Old Hospital Chowringhee, Rabindra Sarani, Lala Road, and Lakshmisahar.
Residents, including students and office workers, encountered significant challenges while trying to navigate through the flooded streets. In some locations, locals were even seen fishing in the inundated roads.

In light of the deteriorating conditions, the district administration has issued warnings advising residents in hilly regions to relocate to safer areas to avoid risks associated with soil erosion and landslides.
Heavy rainfall persisted in Assam on Sunday, disrupting both road and rail transport across several districts. To date, eight fatalities have been reported due to floods and landslides, with over 78,000 individuals affected across more than 15 districts.
The Central Water Commission (CWC) has released an “orange bulletin” for the state, indicating a critical flood situation as ten major rivers, including the Brahmaputra and Barak, are flowing above the danger mark.
Various agencies, including the NDRF, SDRF, police, and fire services, have been mobilized for relief and rescue efforts, with ongoing evacuations in the impacted regions.
