has its fair share of - the kind of places people pass through but never want to stop in. Often described as grey, concrete jungles with little to offer, they don't usually make the top of anyone's bucket list. But while we love a bit of doom and gloom in , the truth is, places often turn out to be much better than their reputations suggest.

, in Hertfordshire, has long had a reputation for being dull, and it recently featured at the top of ranking of the UK's so-called most boring . Stevenage was described as a "quintessential commuter town" that despite its hidden history and unique features, is still widely seen by many as a place "where everyone is a commuter".

Stevenage was also said to lack the cultural attractions that other towns may have, like galleries, theatres or trendy restaurants, which is why many people see it as boring.

But while some might see Stevenage as bleak, others argue it has far more to offer than it gets credit for.

Stevenage was the first post-war New Town, designed in 1946 to help house families moving out of London.

According to , it offered affordable homes, better living conditions, and good jobs in a leafy setting, and it's still growing.

The town's centre includes one of Europe's earliest fully pedestrianised shopping precincts, built between 1956 and 1959, now listed as a conservation area for its historic value.

It also has a rich and hidden history. In its ranking, The Telegraph highlighted Stevenage's Roman, Saxon and medieval past, its role as a market town, and its status as the birthplace of the Vincent motorcycle.

It's even home to the gorgeous parish church of St Andrew and St George, one of its top attractions. In modern times, Stevenage has built a strong business and science sector.

The town is home to major international companies like Airbus, GSK, and MBDA.

Gunnels Wood Road, where they are based, is one of the largest employment areas in the East of England.

Commuters also benefit from fast and regular trains into central London, with journeys as quick as 19 minutes.

And it's still relatively affordable. According to , the average house price in Stevenage over the last year was £358,884.

Terraced homes sold for £335,311, while flats averaged £186,405, which is far below the London average.
