Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer was fined Rs 24 lakh for having a slow over rate in the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 match against Mumbai Indians on Sunday. The remaining Punjab Kings playing XI members, including the impact player, were each fined Rs 6 lakh or 25% of their match fee, whichever is lower. The skipper of Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya, was also fined Rs 30 lakh for the same offence, while the rest of his team members were fined Rs 12 lakh or 50% of their match fees.

 

Despite the fine, Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by five wickets to reach the IPL 2025 final. It was a great display by the team, particularly by Shreyas Iyer, who played a brilliant knock of 87 runs in 41 deliveries. His innings comprised of five fours and eight sixes, and he remained not out until the end. This victory means Punjab Kings, who had played a final for the last time in 2014, will now play Royal Challengers Bengaluru on June 3 in Ahmedabad.

In pursuit of a huge target of 204, Josh Inglis set the tone with 38 runs from a mere 21 deliveries, including 20 runs off an over from Jasprit Bumrah. Nehal Wadhera also played a crucial role with 48 runs from 29 deliveries. He and Shreyas accumulated 84 runs from a mere 7.5 overs, putting the team in near reach of the target. Shreyas then sealed the match with an over to spare.

 

Mumbai Indians had previously scored 203 for 6 after they were asked to bat. Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav both made 44 runs, while Jonny Bairstow contributed 38 from 24 balls after Rohit Sharma was dismissed for mere 8. Tilak and Suryakumar contributed a 72-run partnership for the third wicket. Naman Dhir made a rapid 37 from 18 balls at the end to take the score above 200.

 

For Punjab Kings' bowling unit, took 2 wickets for 43 runs and the best figures. Yuzvendra Chahal, Kyle Jamieson, and Vyshak Vijaykumar each took one wicket.
