A number of stores are set to close across the UK this month. It's been a tough year so far for retailers with increased costs and lower customer footfall.

As well as and rent hikes, employer contributions have also increased. Chancellor increased the rate employers must pay for the tax from 13.8% to 15% on April 6. The has also gone up, placing further pressure on employers.

As reported by , a total of 14 shops are set to close across the UK in June. They include Poundland, The Original Factory Shop, Iceland and The Works. Here is the full list.

Poundland will close its store in Surrey Quays, London, on Wednesday, June 11. A further 200 shops remain at risk across the nation.

Gordon Brothers and Hilco are reportedly competing to buy the company. A decision is expected to come within days while the sale of Poundland will likely come by September.

The retailer will close a total of nine shops this month. The Original Factory Shop previously warned that some "loss-making" sites would close after recent struggles.

The Iceland supermarket in College Square, Margate, will close on Saturday, June 21. It has been confirmed that staff at the store will be offered other jobs within the business.

It comes as Iceland reshuffles its business to adapt to shifting consumer habits. The company previously cited a growing demand for convenience and online shopping.

The Works will close its store on Margate High Street on Sunday, June 8. The chain has already closed five other under-performing branches this year.

A spokesperson for The Works said: "As part of ongoing plans to optimise our store portfolio, we will be closing our Margate store.

"We have loved being part of the local community and apologise for any inconvenience caused by this closure.

"Customers can continue to shop with us at our nearby stores at Westwood Cross Shopping Centre and Ramsgate Garden Centre."

The London department store will close on Sunday, June 8 after 120 years on the high street. It recently launched a huge clearance sale.

The family-run business cited rising costs and a struggling high street for their closure. However, the Windsor flagship store will remain open alongside the online business.

The clothing shop, in Timber Hill in Norwich, will close on Saturday, June 7 after 50 years of business. The store manager blamed the current economic climate and the aftermath of Covid-19 for the business's hardship.

The shop was founded by David and Rodger Kingsley in 1978. It has now launched a closing down sale ahead of the closure.
