Indore (Madhya Pradesh): What began as a new journey of life for a couple has turned into a tragedy that has left the entire city mourning. The body of Raja Raghuwanshi has been recovered from a deep gorge in Shillong while the search operation for his wife Sonam is still ongoing.

The newlywed city based couple went missing in Shillong during their honeymoon on May 23. Just weeks ago, on May 11, the couple tied the knot in a joyous ceremony surrounded by family and friends.

Their new life had just begun, filled with dreams and promises. On May 20, they set off for their honeymoon to the picturesque hills of Meghalaya.

However, no one could have imagined the tragic twist this journey would take. On May 23, both went missing in Shillong. Since then, their family and friends had been holding on to hope, praying for their safe return. “May God bring them back safely,” was the silent prayer on every lip.

But on June 2, came the devastating news - Raja is no more. His body was discovered after 10 days of relentless search operations by NDRF teams and local police.

Search for wife continues

On the other hand, the search for Sonam continues, with rescue teams combing the rugged terrain, still clinging to hope.

State cabinet minister Kailash Vijayvargiya wrote in a social media post, “The news of the tragic demise of Raja Raghuwanshi, a resident of Indore, is deeply saddening and heart-wrenching. After his recent marriage, he had gone on a trip to Osara Hills in Shillong with his wife, Sonam Raghuwanshi. As per media reports, his mortal remains have now been found. This news has brought immense sorrow. We pray to the Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and to give strength to the bereaved family to bear this unbearable loss.”
