Investigation into Adani Group's LPG Activities

Authorities in the United States are currently examining whether entities associated with the Adani Group have imported liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Iran into India, as reported by a major news outlet on Monday.

The investigation focuses on several LPG tanker vessels that have been transporting cargo to Adani Enterprises, according to unnamed sources cited by the publication.

The US has imposed sanctions on Iran due to its nuclear activities and alleged support for groups like Hamas.

In response to these allegations, the conglomerate firmly denied any wrongdoing on Monday.

“Adani unequivocally of intentionally violating sanctions or engaging in trade involving Iranian LPG,” stated a spokesperson for the company. “Moreover, we are unaware of any investigation by US authorities regarding this matter.”

A report from the same news outlet indicated that an investigation into a fleet of LPG tankers operating between the conglomerate’s Mundra port in Gujarat and the Persian Gulf since early 2024 revealed behaviors typically associated with vessels attempting to conceal their operations.

Following the report, Adani Enterprises issued a statement to the stock exchange asserting that the “story seems to be based and conjecture.”

“Any implication that Adani Group entities are knowingly violating US sanctions against Iran is categorically denied,” the company emphasized. “Such claims are not only defamatory but also appear to be a deliberate attempt to harm the reputation and interests of the Adani Group.”

The conglomerate reiterated that it in handling any cargo from Iran at its ports.

“This policy extends to all shipments originating from Iran or vessels registered under the Iranian flag,” they added. “Furthermore, the Adani Group does not operate or facilitate any ships owned by Iranian entities. This policy is strictly enforced across all our ports.”

This situation arises as US President Donald Trump has Iranian energy products, threatening to impose secondary sanctions on such entities.

The Trump administration is intensifying efforts to pressure Iran to reduce its oil exports and prevent the development of nuclear weapons, while Tehran maintains that its nuclear program is intended for peaceful purposes.
