Toronto mass shooting:  A tragic shooting incident in Toronto's Lawrence Heights neighbourhood has claimed the life of one person and left several others injured, local Canadian media reported.

According to an official update from the Toronto police, at least five persons have been admitted to hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The incident occurred in North York's Lawrence Heights area, prompting a swift emergency response.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow expressed concern over the violence in a statement posted on social media. "Disturbed by news of the shootings in the Lawrence Heights area this evening. My office is in contact with Toronto Police, who are on scene now and investigating, and the local councillor, Deputy Mayor Mike Colle," she said.

She went on to thank first responders, saying, “I want to thank the first responders – Toronto Police, Fire and Paramedic Services – for your work on a very busy and challenging scene. Toronto Police are working to provide an update soon.”

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the shooting, and further details are awaited.
