RCB may be at the peak right now, but none shall forget the role that veterans such as AB de Villiers played in laying the foundation of the franchise. Virat Kohli surely does not.
Following his historic win last night, where RCB sank PBKS in the final to finally lift their maiden IPL trophy, Kohli was quick to acknowledge the role that his close confidante and former RCB batting partner-in-crime played in the franchise finally achieving glory.
“What ABD has done for the franchise is tremendous. I told him, ‘This win is as much yours as it is ours.’ I want you to celebrate with us,” Kohli told Matthew Hayden after the victory.
“He’s been the POTM most times in the franchise despite being retired for four years. Tells you the impact he’s had on the league, team, and me. He deserves to be on the podium, lifting the cup.”
After the festivities were done with, Kohli took to Instagram to share a picture of the former batting duo, tagging de Villiers with the caption ‘Equally yours biscotti”.
After RCB secured the famous win over PBKS in the IPL 2025 final, De Villiers also took to X to share a post. In the tweet going viral on the internet, De Villiers wrote, “Ee Cup Hall Named Namdu.”
De Villiers spent 11 years of his cricketing career at RCB between 2011 and 2021, donning the red of Bengaluru.
The former South African captain played 156 IPL matches for RCB from 2011 to 2021 and, with the help of two centuries and 37 half-centuries, scored 4491 runs. ABD played two IPL finals for RCB in 2011 and 2016 but finished as the runner-up only.
