This is the first time that an IPL final has been played in Ahmedabad and the team batting first has won. RCB scored 190 runs while playing first, in response, Punjab's team could score only 184 runs.

Punjab Kings got a target of 191 runs. To chase this big target, Punjab fielded 2 uncapped players in the opening. Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh gave their team a quick start, but Priyansh was out after scoring 24 runs. Phil Salt took a brilliant catch and sent Priyansh to the pavilion. Everything was going well and Punjab's score was 72 runs for the loss of one wicket, but within the next 26 runs, Punjab lost 3 important wickets.

In this crucial match, captain Shreyas Iyer was also able to score only 1 run. Soon Punjab lost 4 wickets at a score of 98. Nehal Vadhera and Shashank Singh slowly took the innings forward and added 38 runs, but once the fall of wickets started, the match started slipping out of Punjab's hands. Punjab lost 3 wickets within just 9 wickets.

Poor batting in the middle overs was one of the main reasons for Punjab Kings' defeat. Punjab team lost the wickets of Shreyas Iyer, Prabhsimran Singh and Josh English within 4 overs, from where Punjab could not make a comeback in the match. In fact, after scoring one wicket at the score of 72, Punjab lost 3 wickets within 26 runs.

Punjab had strong batsmen like Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh in the lower middle order, but after these 3 wickets, the batsmen of the Punjab team were not able to make any big partnership. Within these 26 runs, Krunal Pandya took two wickets, while Romario Shepherd broke the back of PBKS by dismissing Shreyas Iyer for just 1 run.
