Wrexham are gearing up for a four-way tussle to sign the offspring of a former star. Reading's Charlie Savage, son of ex- international , is on the radar of several clubs.

Alongside newly-promoted and , and are also believed to be keen on the 22-year-old midfielder. The Red Dragons might have to break their transfer record to entice Savage to the Racecourse Ground.

understands he could be eager for a move to a higher division in a bid to reclaim his spot in 's Wales squad. A graduate of 's youth academy, Savage made a for the Red Devils.

He came on as a late substitute in a match against Young Boys in December 2021 before making the switch to Reading in the summer of 2023. Wrexham could have an ace up their sleeve in the race for Savage's signature, given that his dad was born and bred in the area.

Charlie has earned two caps for the Wales senior team and made his debut at the Racecourse in October 2023. He completed the entire match and notched up an assist in a resounding 4-0 friendly thumping of Gibraltar.

Among the crowd was his grandmother, who lives just a stone's throw from the iconic ground, accompanied by his dad. At the time, an elated Charlie told the : "This is the proudest day of my life. I've been through some tough times for various reasons at different clubs recently, and to have my family here makes all the sacrifice and the hard times worth it.

"I'm so proud that he's my dad, for everything he achieved in the game, but I also want to be my own player. My dad has always instilled in me to work hard and the rest will take care of itself."

Robbie, who holds 39 caps for Wales, said: "His pride in the red shirt of Wales speaks for itself because he was born in England and his mother was born in , so he could have played for either of them.

"He's got a left foot like a wand and he's an elegant player on the ball, but he needs to win more duels and Reading is a great place for him to work on that physical side of his game.

"But you can't write scripts like the one he's writing for himself – first his dad's on the air when he makes his first United appearance in the Champions League, and now he's got a Wales cap in front of his nana, who has hardly been out of the house for three years since Covid.

"It was written in the stars for it to happen here. I was stood behind the goal as a 10-year-old boy when Mark Hughes scored that incredible bicycle kick against Spain in 1985 and I didn't think it could get any better – but this tops it."

Charlie is the latest name being linked with a potential move to Wrexham this summer following their in April. , and Ben Davies are among the other high-profile players rumoured to be on their radar, along with pair , who are both out of contract this month.
