received a code violation after furiously striking a ball into the crowd. Frustration got the better of the Russian in her remarkable defeat against world No. 361 Lois Boisson.

Andreeva imploded after finding herself 3-0 ahead in the second set. Boisson, who had taken the first set in a tiebreak, won three games on the spin and then led 30-0 in the seventh game due to an error by her opponent. A clearly agitated Andreeva took several steps forwards before angrily hammering a ball into the stands with her racket. Members of the crowd, who were rejoicing in Boisson's incredible success, loudly booed the teenager's outburst. Her actions landed her a code violation, with the umpire warning issuing a warning over her behaviour.

Earlier in the match, Andreeva had complained to the umpire that the crowd were being too noisy during her serves. After hitting a double fault during the first-set tiebreak, she marched over to the chair and urged the official to calm the partisan audience.

The 18-year-old was then involved in another spat with the umpire. Boisson had delayed a point to challenge a call that determined an Andreeva forehand had landed long. Boisson was successful in her appeal, prompting a tirade from Andreeva.

She walked to the net and demanded to know why the umpire seemed to have left the chair mid-point. Andreeva then insisted that the ball had landed on the line, but was proven wrong by hawk-eye.

Boisson won six consecutive games to seal an astounding 7-6 6-3 victory on Court Philippe-Chatrier. Coco Gauff awaits her in the semi-final.

The 22-year-old started this week as France's 24th-highest ranked player. Next week, regardless of the outcome of the remainder of her tournament, she will climb to the top of that list.

Boisson, who suffered an ACL injury before last year's French Open and only returned in February, said: "It's incredible. It was amazing to feel supported like this. There are no words to describe that feeling.

"I think that whatever the situation last year and difficult moments that we went to, it's unbelievable to come from there but it's thanks to my team who supported me. Thanks to all of us really."
