For Yuzvendra Chahal, the IPL 2025 final was a forgettable affair. He finished with pretty ordinary figures of 1/37 in four overs though he did pick up the important wicket of Mayank Agarwal. However, RCB still set PBKS a target of 191 and they fell seven runs short of a maiden title in a second final. RCB lifted their first IPL trophy.

Forgettable Statistic

For Chahal, it was a moment to forget because it was the third time he had lost in an IPL final. But all these three occasions have come with different teams. In fact, his first loss was in 2016 while playing for RCB under Virat Kohli vs SRH. Kohli was part of the side that beat PBKS in 2025. The second time he lost a final was while playing for RR in 2022. This time they lost to GT. Third time was not to be a charm for Chahal as he lost once again vs RCB.

List Worth Forgetting

Chahal is now part of an embarrassing list of players who have lost IPL finals with three different teams. The others on this list are Ravichandran Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan and Rahul Tripathy. Ashwin lost IPL finals with CSK, RR and DC. Dhawan lost it with MI, DC and SRH while Tripathy lost playing for RPS, SRH and KKR.

Chahal’s IPL 2025

PBKS spent Rs. 18 crore to rope in Chahal and he picked up 16 wickets in 14 games in IPL 2025. His best spell was 4/28 vs KKR. This was PBKS’ 1st IPL final since 2014 and once again they ended up second best. Back then, they lost to KKR. KKR were the defending champions this time but did not finish in the top four.

On Top of the World

Chahal leads the pack by some distance when it comes to most IPL wickets. He has 221 scalps to his name. He’s the only one with over 200 victims in the history of the tournament. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is in second place with 198 and Sunil Narine completes the top three with 192. Narine has taken the most wickets by a foreign player. Piyush Chawla has the same number of wickets as Narine but has played more games so he takes fourth spot.

What Does the Future Hold?

RCB took four attempts in the final to win a maiden IPL title. CSK and MI took two attempts each. RR, DCH, KKR, SRH and GT won on their first attempt. For Kohli it was a long wait as he has been with RCB since the tournament began in 2008. For Chahal, it was the third time that he failed to win it and that too with multiple sides. What will happen in 2026? Only time will tell!
