BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty addressed "concerns" after a dog sparked chaos in the studio on Thursday morning.

A retired police dog stole the show and couldn't quite give up his day job, after something caught his eye.

Barking over Naga and Charlie Stayt's interview, Marco got up and drew attention towards what was happening behind the scenes.

"Everyone stop moving," Naga jokingly warned. She then explained: "Our floor manager has just run out, so that's fine."

She later added: "Lots of people will be concerned because he's barking that he's not loving it, but he's ok, is he?"

She was reassured by the dog's owner, Laura, that Marco's behaviour in the studio was "natural".

Marco was on the programme to advocate for national dog welfare charity, Thin Blue Paw, which is campaigning for retired police dogs to have pensions to support them after their time in service.

Explaining his situation, his owner shared: "Marco was operational for two years, he retired quite young at the age of four.

"He just wasn't cut out for the job any more, he wasn't interested, so I adopted him last March."

She went on to highlight the training that police dogs come with, leading Naga to ask if being an owner of working dogs was "more intense".

"Some of them retire really well and convert to being a dog very quickly," Laura replied.

"Marco took a little bit longer, he is still full of energy, but I think that's because he's a bit younger, I have that to deal with as well.

"There's a lot to consider, you have to be careful of things that might trigger them such as someone sprinting past you."

Hearing of the injuries that police dogs can suffer from, Naga asked Laura: "We're a nation of dog-lovers, is Marco ok?"

Laura revealed that the dog had elbow dysplasia, an inherited condition where the elbow joint doesn't develop properly, leading to pain and stiffness.

However, Naga soon found out that Marco was comfortable on the floor in the studio, despite distractions from the crew.

Marco provided some delightful viewing for those at home, with one laughing on X: "Go get him Marco."

Closing the segment, Charlie praised: "Marco is so tuned in to our studio, he's watching absolutely everything."

He added: "It's nice to have a bit of sound-effect, he's creating noise and we're talking about dogs so why not?"

"He's a performer at heart," Naga chimed in with.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One and iPlayer.
