Yograj Singh wasn't too pleased with shot selection in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final between Punjab Kings  (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 3.

Chasing a challenging target of 191 for a win, PBKS were depending heavily on their captain, who played a blinder of an innings against Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 to take his team to the summit clash. However, Shreyas lasted just two balls as he got out in the 10th over trying to cut Romario Shepherd for a boundary through the point region. The right-handed batter managed a faint edge that went throught to RCB's wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma. The umpire didn't raise his finger but Shreyas decided to walk.

PBKS slumped to 79/3 in the 10th over at the fall of Shreyas' wicket as RCB got a fresh lease on life in the pulsating final. Yograj, who had predicted a win for PBKS in the final, lashed out at the Mumbai batter for the shot he played to get dismissed.

“The shot which Shreyas Iyer played in the final was a criminal offence, according to me. Ashok Mankad told me about this criminal offence, which comes under Section 302. He also told me that the repercussions of this is that you will be banned for two matches. What Shreyas did yesterday is not acceptable. There is no apology for that,” Yograj was quoted as saying by India Today.

The dangerous Josh Inglis fell a few overs later and the likes of Nehal Wadhera and Marcus Stoinis couldn't make a mark. Shashank Singh got himself an unbeaten 61 off 30 balls in the end, hitting Josh Hazlewood for three sixes and a boundary in the final over. However, Punjab lost the match by six wickets, as RCB lifted their maiden IPL title.

Despite the blip in the final, Shreyas would be proud of how he performed as a player as well as a captain in IPL 2025. He took PBKS to the final for the first time since 2014 and finished with 604 runs from 17 innings at an average of 50.33.
