Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Thursday had granted interim bail to law student and influencer Sharmishta Panoli who was arrested from her Gurugram residence by Kolkata police.

Notably, the Court had directed Sharmistha to furnish a bail bond of Rs 10,000.

According to the lawyer of Sharmistha, she was granted bail by the court on 3 conditions, that she will surrender her passport, she will join the investigation and will sign a bail bond.

Sharmistha has been accused of making inflammatory statements against the Prophet and Islam and sharing the video on social media.

Even though she had deleted all the videos and had tendered an apology but FIR was lodged against her following a complaint by one Wajahat Khan in Kolkata.

The Kolkata Police acted promptly and arrested her from Gurugram. She was sent to 14 days judicial custody by a court in Alipore.

Incidentally, Wajahat Khan, the complainant against Sharmishta himself publishes inflammatory posts against Hindu deities and complaints against him have been lodged in the national capital, Kolkata and Assam.

A team of Assam police visited Kolkata to arrest Khan but he is absconding.
