London's Waterloo Underground Tube station was evacuated earlier this evening, sparking travel chaos for hundreds of commuters on their journeys home on Thursday (June 5).

Transport for London (TfL) said a fire alert closed the underground station, which links to the mainline station - Britain's biggest.

For a time, Waterloo Underground's status page on the TfL website listed the station as "Part Closed", explaining: "The Jubilee line and the Waterloo & City line are not serving Waterloo station while we fix an electrical fault.

"Tickets are being accepted on London Buses and South Western Railway," it adds. "The Bakerloo line, Northern line and National Rail services are not affected by this issue."

A spokesman for TfL told the Express at about 7.30pm that the station had reopened and all lines were running a good service. South Western Railway, which operates from Waterloo Station, said services weren't affected, but station staff were aware.

London Fire Brigade was approached for details.
