Winn Group, which was launched in Byker 23 years ago, has seen huge growth over the past 12 years, fuelled by a partnership formed with international investment companies JZ International (JZI) and Souter Investment Group.
Mr Winn stepped down as CEO three years ago and moved into an executive chairman role, and around the same time he became engaged to fiancée Allana Luke, with whom he has now been with for five years.
Since then, Mr Winn has become a father to Aria – and her arrival has clearly made him assess his future. He said: “I’ve recently stepped down from the business and I’ve got a villa in Marbella which I’ve had for about 10 years. I’ve been spending a lot more time at the villa, especially in winter, so I came to the conclusion that if I’m going to spend more time there, is it worth keeping the house on?
“It’s a bit of a combination of things - retirement, a change of location and also the tax situation and there’s uncertainty in general with other things going on. I was locked in to the firm for 10 years when we took on investment, but now I’m free of that."
