Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has recently announced the opening of three new driving test centres at Hadapsar, Alandi Road, and Diveghat near Saswad. The facilities have been started amid the growing demand for driving licence tests and to reduce the delay in providing a licence.

In the last 2.5 years, Pune Regional Transport Office issued 2,30,503 permanent driving licences of motor vehicles including all types. Additionally, 67,785 applicants applied for a learning licence in the last 5 months.

New sensor-based centres will decrease the waiting time

Swapnil Bhosale, Sub-Regional Transport Officer, speaking to FPJ, said, "The main aim is to decongest the Bhosari-based Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) and to make the licence testing process more convenient to the applicant across the Pune region."

"In Pune, the number of applicants is more and our current infrastructure is short, leading to delays. The new sensor-based centres will decrease the waiting time and help to process fast," he added.

Currently, the learning licence test is conducted at Sangamwadi RTO. For permanent licence, two-wheeler applicants are required to visit the Phulewadi RTO office at Alandi Road, and for four-wheeler and other heavy vehicle applicants, the test is conducted at the IDTR sensor-based test track. With the addition of new infrastructure, the waiting time for the test will be reduced.
