Food lovers are raving about 's latest one-pot comfort dish, and the ingredient that takes it to the next level might surprise you.

The celebrity chef's hearty recipe has captured the attention of home cooks for its simple method and rich, smoky flavour. While it may seem like a humble dish, the secret to its "sensational" taste lies in one must-have ingredient.

According to Nigella, these sweet and smoky peppers are non-negotiable.

"Don't be tempted to omit the flame-roasted peppers," she insists. "Their flavour, the sweetness and smokiness, is essential."

The dish, which serves four, uses Italian sausages for their faster cooking time and looser texture, and calls for butter beans, cherry tomatoes, and a splash of red vermouth to create a deeply flavoured, rustic sauce.

The flame-roasted peppers, snipped into bite-sized pieces, elevate the dish with an added layer of complexity.

If Italian sausages aren't available, Nigella advises using regular sausages with the addition of minced garlic to boost flavour.

But whether you're using cannellini, borlotti, or butter beans, the flame-roasted peppers remain the key to unlocking the dish's full potential.

Once simmered with bay leaves and seasoned to taste, the sausages are sliced and returned to the thickened sauce, creating a rich and comforting one-pan meal, best served with crusty bread to mop up every last drop.

Nigella's fans have praised the recipe for its depth of flavour, ease, and flexibility.

"It tastes like it's been slow-cooked for hours, but comes together in under 30 minutes," one commented online.
