Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has launched the Bima Sakhi Yojana to empower women financially and provide insurance services to rural India. This scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 9 December 2024 in Panipat, Haryana. This scheme is especially for those women who are 10th pass and want to bring change in their community.

Objective and benefits of the scheme

Through the Bima Sakhi scheme, LIC trains women from rural areas as insurance agents by training them. Its main objective is to make women self-reliant and provide them with a permanent source of income. Under the scheme, selected women will be given special training for three years. Rs 7,000 will be given as a monthly stipend in the first year, Rs 6,000 in the second year, and Rs 5,000 in the third year. In this way, they get a total financial assistance of more than Rs 2 lakh in three years.

Apart from this, women can also earn a commission of up to Rs 48,000 in the first year by selling the policy. On completion of the training, they will be provided with a Bima Sakhi certificate and LIC agent code, so that they can officially start working as LIC agents.

How to apply for Bima Sakhi Yojana

Under this scheme, women are taught every detail related to insurance. Such as financial literacy, the art of communicating with customers, the strategy of selling policies, and networking. The special thing is that the selected women will get an opportunity to work in their village or city so that they will not have to go out and work.

Eligibility for Bima Sakhi Yojana

To become a Bima Sakhi, the age of a woman should be between 18 to 70 years and the minimum educational qualification should be a 10th pass. However, close relatives of existing LIC agents or employees cannot apply for this scheme.
