Virat Kohli’s dream of finally winning the IPL trophy took a dark turn when a stampede in Bengaluru led to the death of 11 people outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium. After playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for 18 years, Kohli finally saw the team win their first IPL title on Tuesday. The next morning, the team landed in Bengaluru to celebrate the big win.

RCB players were received by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Vidhana Soudha. They then proceeded to M. Chinnaswamy Stadium for further jubilation. But outside the stadium, a large crowd had amassed to catch a glimpse of the players. In the commotion and haste, a stampede occurred, resulting in the deaths of 11 persons and injuring 67 individuals.

While this was happening outside, the party went on inside the stadium. Kohli and RCB captain Rajat Patidar addressed fans inside.

Based on this, Bengaluru Police arrested four individuals, two officials of RCB, one of which is the marketing head of RCB and two personnel from DNA Entertainment, the firm that organized the event. A case has also been filed against RCB, DNA Entertainment, and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

Police have initiated an investigation to determine how this accident occurred.

There are many angry fans on social media. The hashtag #ArrestKohli is trending on X (formerly Twitter). Some think Kohli and other players should be held responsible for what occurred. Others are agitated that Kohli immediately flew away to London rather than remaining behind to meet the families of the deceased.
