Baroness Margaret Curran has quit 's Government after just over two weeks as Energy Minister. The peer said it was an "honour" to serve in the role but that she was stepping down due to "unexpected news" regarding her health.

"I'll continue to work in the Lords supporting the Government with my full commitment," she said in a statement on X. Downing Street had earlier announced the House of Lords minister had left Government on Friday afternoon. She was appointed to the position on May 22 after her predecessor Lord Hunt of King's Heath retired.

Her replacement in the Lords has not yet been announced.

Baroness Curran was the MP for Glasgow East between 2010-2015 and during her time in opposition, served as Shadow Scotland Secretary and Shadow Minister for Work and Pensions.

Energy Secretary , who is spearheading 's net zero plans, praised Baroness Curran as he welcomed her to his team last month.

"Having worked with Margaret for many years, I know she will be a brilliant minister, fighting for energy security, lower bills, good jobs and climate action," he said.
