Bakrid, called Eid-ul-Azha. This is an important festival of Islam. This festival is considered a symbol of renunciation and devotion. This festival shows the spirit of sacrificing everything in the path of Allah. In 2025, Bakrid will be celebrated in India on 7 June, while it was celebrated on 6 June in countries like Saudi Arabia, Oman and Indonesia. On this day, Muslims offer namaz, sacrifice the animal and distribute meat to the needy.

Son’s sacrifice was sought from Hazrat Ibrahim

Bakrid’s sacrifice is given in memory of a major examination of Hazrat Ibrahim (Alaihissalam). It is believed that Allah had sought the sacrifice of his son Ismail from Hazrat Ibrahim. He agreed to fulfill this order, but as soon as he tried to sacrifice his son, Allah sent a Dumba instead of his son. This incident gives a message that Allah accepts the intentions and devotion made with a sincere heart.

Symbol of purity of soul

Religious scholars believe that Bakrid is not just a religious ritual, but it is a symbol of the purity of the soul and complete dedication to Allah. The real worship is to abandon your inner ego, selfishness and malice before sacrifice. The date of Bakrid is decided every year according to the Islamic lunar calendar and it is celebrated on the 10th of Jill-Hija. Due to the moon based, the date vary every year and there may be a difference of one day in countries.

On this day Muslims wear new clothes. They offer Eid prayers and then perform the ritual of sacrifice. The flesh of sacrifice is divided into three parts. One part for themselves, one for relatives and the third for the poor and needy.
