New Delhi: HOUSEFull 5 witnessed a strong start at the box office. The opening day collections touched Rs 23 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The comedy franchise’s fifth instalment, headlined by Akshay Kumar, appears to have outperformed his previous releases this year, including Sky Force and Kesari Chapter 2, in terms of day-one earnings.
The film was released on Friday with a unique twist: two alternate endings were offered in versions titled Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B. While both variants shared nearly identical content for the first two hours, they diverged in the final act. This dual-ending approach was promoted as a marketing tactic to boost footfall and ticket sales. However, early signs suggest the gamble may not pay off, as reviews have remained mixed and audience occupancy has shown a divide between the two versions.
An overall occupancy rate of 28% was reported for Housefull 5A, while Housefull 5B saw a lower turnout at 16%. Combined, both versions were shown in over 7000 screenings across India—5A being allotted more than 4000 shows and 5B around 2900.
Despite lukewarm reception, HOUSEFull 5 has already surpassed the opening day earnings of its predecessor, Housefull 4, which collected Rs 19 crore in 2019. It has also exceeded the first-day figures of Akshay’s previous 2025 releases – Sky Force opened at Rs 12.25 crore and Kesari Chapter 2 at Rs 7 crore. Although those films concluded with collections of Rs 112 crore and Rs 92 crore respectively, they struggled to make a mark due to their high production costs.
The film’s ensemble cast has been credited with drawing initial interest. Alongside Akshay Kumar, returning stars like Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Chunky Panday have been featured, with new additions including Nargis Fakhri, Sonam Bajwa, Fardeen Khan, and Sanjay Dutt. Comic veterans like Johnny Lever, Jackie Shroff, Ranjeet, and Nana Patekar have also been roped in to elevate the humour quotient.
Directed by Tarun Mansukhani and penned by Sajid Nadiadwala, who also produced the film, HOUSEFull 5 now awaits the weekend’s verdict.
