Old Gandak River: In recent years, several important projects have been approved to improve connectivity in Bihar. The purpose of these schemes is not only to connect cities and villages, but also to speed up development in the areas of local trade, agriculture, health and education. A new bridge over the Budhi Gandak River in Samastipur and a fourlane road from Mathurapur to Muktapur on NH-322 will be constructed. The cost of this project is Rs 58.60 crore, which will improve traffic.
The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved the construction of a new high-level river concrete bridge on the Budhi Gandak River in Samastipur district of Bihar. The bridge will be installed on the forelane road from Mathurapur to Muktapur on National Highway-322 (NH-322). The project has received approval of Rs 58.60 crore and will be completed in 24 months. This bridge will facilitate traffic between Samastipur and Darbhanga, as well as increase the connectivity of other districts.
The bridge built on the Budhi Gandak River and the new forelane road section will play an important role in reducing the traffic congestion through the city. Currently, heavy traffic on the Karpoori bridge is often jammed, causing difficulty to local people and traders. The construction of the new bridge will reduce the travel time between Samastipur and Darbhanga and there will be different routes in both directions, which will facilitate traffic.
Samastipur and Darbhanga districts will benefit the most from this project. Samastipur, which is a major business and agricultural center in Bihar, will be better connected to Darbhanga by this bridge and fourlane road. Darbhanga, which is a cultural and educational center of Mithilanchal region, will easily reach the markets and railway stations of Samastipur. Apart from this, this project will also benefit neighboring districts like Muzaffarpur and Madhubani as NH-322 is an important connectivity route.
Muzaffarpur, which is about 54 km from Samastipur from the new road and bridge, and Madhubani, which is 67 km away, will benefit indirectly. Traders and farmers who sell their products in the market committee area of Samastipur, will now be able to reach their destination easily without the problem of jam. Apart from this, there are many religious and cultural sites in Samastipur and Darbhanga, which will also promote tourism.
Local traders believe that this project will revive trade in the market committee area. During the construction work, hundreds of people will get direct and indirect employment, which will also contribute to the employment generation. The latest technology will be used to ensure high quality of bridges and roads, which will prevent the incidents of bridge collapse in Bihar. Economic and social development in the northern region of Bihar will gain momentum from this project.
