The upcoming five-match Test series between India and England, starting June 20, will kick off the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle for both teams.

While both sides aim to win, India faces extra pressure, having not won a Test series in England for the past 18 years.

India’s last series victory in England

In 2007, India claimed the inaugural Pataudi Trophy by defeating England 1-0 on English soil. Since then, India has toured England four times, suffering three series losses and one drawn series (2-2) in 2021-22.

In 2025, captain Shubman Gill will lead the team with the challenge of ending this 18-year drought. Notably, the India-England Test series will now be played for the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy, replacing the Pataudi Trophy.

India’s first Test series win in England came in 1971, under captain Ajit Wadekar, with a 1-0 victory in a three-match series. The second came in 1986, when Kapil Dev’s team defeated England 2-0 at home. The third and most recent series win was in 2007, led by Rahul Dravid, with a 1-0 victory in England.

India's squad for the England tour has been officially announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
