The has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for today as over 60 areas in England and Wales prepare for potential flooding. The for 9am to 6pm on June 7, leading to travel choas. A yellow warning means there's a medium likelihood of the weather event happening, though the impacts would remain low.

The warning reads: "There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus. Probably some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes. Delays to train services are possible. Some and other services is likely." The added that 10-15mm of rain is expected to fall within in less than an hour, with the worst-affected areas potentially seeing a total of 30-40mm. There is also due to be lighting, hail, and strong wind gusts bringing extra hazards and travel chaos.

The weather office recommended preparing for by preparing a food plan and emergency flood kit.

In the event of a power cut, it stressed the importance of having torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items handy.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Dan Suri said: "Frequent heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected for much of Saturday, before they fade from the west during the mid-to-late afternoon.

"It's possible that 10-15mm of rain could fall in less than an hour, while some places could see 30-40mm of rain over several hours from successive showers and thunderstorms. Frequent lightning, hail, and strong, gusty winds are also possible."
