Legendary R&B singer Wayne Lewis, who was one of the founding members of chart topping group Atlantic Starr, has at the age of 68, the band have confirmed. The star died on Thursday, June 5, and no cause of death has been issued. They announced the news in a post. "It's with great sadness we have to post the passing of Wayne Lewis on June 5, 2025, please keep the family in your prayers and respect their privacy #waynelewis #restinpeace #flyhigh Sunrise 4/13/1957 Sunset 6/5/2025 #restinpeaceWayne," they wrote.
Fans were devastated by the news and took to social media to share their upset. "Heartbreaking news. Sending our deepest condolences and love to the family, friends, and fans of Wayne Lewis of Atlantic Starr. He was so humble and kind. May God bless his family with peace, love, and understanding. We love you all. #RIPWayneLewis," one wrote on Facebook.
Another added: "Omg I'm devastated. I was looking forward to seeing them perform this Sunday at Capital Jazz Festival. My condolences.""
A third chimed in: "Thank you for all your music contributions to the music industry Wayne Lewis. Forever Remembered. R.I.P."

A fifth sighed: "Man, another R&B legend has passed. Founder and lead singer Wayne Lewis of Atlantic Starr has passed." Meanwhile a sixth shared: "Oh noooooooo my word my condolences to the family may your soul RIP Wayne."
With Atlantic Starr Wayne was best known for the hits Always, Secret Lovers, Circles, Silver Shadow, and Masterpiece. As the vocalist, keyboards and founding member of the band Wayne enjoyed huge success in the 80s and early 90s.
Originally named Newban, the group secured a record deal under the condition they change their name. They released their eponymous debut album in 1978.
However it qwould be 1987 before they landed their first number one fwoth Always which followed the crossover success of Secret Lovers.
Wayne, along with his brother Jonathan, kept the group alive into the 00s with a rotating lineup of other musicians, and they became staples on the nostalgia circuit.
