's cult dinner party show served up one of its most shocking scandals yet - after a contestant was booted off mid-series in scenes labelled a first for the long-running reality favourite. Rory Nicoll had taken part in two nights of the Central Scotland edition, even hosting his own dinner party, before narrator Dave Lamb informed viewers that Rory had been removed from the competition - and would not be returning.
Viewers were left baffled, with no explanation offered on air. It didn't take long for fans to storm X, formerly known as Twitter, demanding answers, with one even submitting a Freedom of Information request. As one fan pointed out, Come Dine With Me isn't live - but that didn't stop the internet from demanding Rory's reinstatement.
The full story has since come to light - and it's even more explosive than expected. Jennifer, the week's first host, revealed to the : "I loved meeting the others, and me and my husband are going along to one of their 40th birthdays.
"There was a bit of a drama, though, and a first on the show. On the first night, everybody came to mine, and on the second night the host had a bit of an argument with the other gentleman. The producer said if the host didn't apologise, he would get kicked off the show."
Rory, it seems, refused - and was swiftly shown the door. Co-stars have since lifted the lid on what really went down. Darren Esposito branded Rory "the biggest a*****e I've ever met" and claimed the 41-year-old had been drinking from 9.30am on the day of filming.
"He had the producer pinned up against the wall at the end of his night, shouting at him that they'd ruined his chances of winning by not letting him serve as much alcohol as he wanted," The Sun reported.
Darren added: "We asked Rory if he was a plant because his behaviour was completely erratic and he hurled a lot of abuse at me. It was really nasty. He was very abusive the whole day."
According to Darren, a 45-minute bust-up followed an argument over Take That, with Rory allegedly bragging he was the original Robbie and slagging off Gary Barlow. Darren, a superfan, wasn't having it.
Linsay Duncan, Darren's co-winner, said: "We'd heard he'd been drinking from 9.30am on the day of his meal. He had kept saying that there wasn't enough to drink the night before. He kept banging his fists on the table and complained about not being able to serve enough alcohol to us."
She added: "He flicked the V's at me and told me to f*** off at one point during the Take That argument. You felt very unsafe in his presence. He was actively looking for arguments and fights."
Channel 4 has never officially confirmed the reason behind Rory's exit, only stating that the contestant was removed due to incidents that happened away from the dinner party.
