The Malayalam sports drama Alappuzha Gymkhana, starring Naslen in the lead and directed by Khalid Rahman, has now made its digital debut on SonyLIV after a stellar theatrical run. Released in April, the film raked in an impressive ₹44.25 crore net in India, securing its place as one of the most successful Mollywood films of the year.

Amid much anticipation and speculation over which OTT platform would bag the rights—names like Amazon Prime Video and JioHotstar were doing the rounds—it’s SonyLIV that has officially released the film in five languages: Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.

The story revolves around five friends from Alappuzha who turn to boxing to secure college admissions through the sports quota after failing their Class 12 exams. Rather than following a conventional underdog template, the film dives into the group’s evolving dynamics, motivations, and individual journeys in the boxing world.

The ensemble cast includes Lukman Avaran, Sandeep Pradeep, Ganapathi, Shine Tom Chacko, Kottayam Nazeer, and Abu Salim. The screenplay, penned by Khalid Rahman and Sreeni Saseendran, brings heart, grit, and humour to the screen.

Produced by Plan B Motion Pictures and Reelistic Studios, the film showcases Rahman’s vision of working with raw, energetic young actors to bring authenticity and camaraderie to the screen.

Alappuzha Gymkhana headlines a strong week of Malayalam OTT releases alongside Thudarum, Patth, Big Ben, and Bromance.
