During a recent book launch for Pooja, Cheteshwar Pujara's wife, Rohit Sharma brought up an incident involving Pujara that he might have overlooked. Both players have frequently been part of the same team, and Rohit recounted how, during their tour of the West Indies, Pujara received multiple warnings but chose to ignore them, leading to regret.
Rohit asked Pujara, "Is there anything in your book about the 2012 India A tour to the West Indies?" This prompted Pujara to reveal a personal story. "I haven't shared this before. My wife knows something happened, but not the specifics. Being a vegetarian, I was searching for food late at night in Trinidad and Tobago. Unfortunately, I was mugged while returning after failing to find a meal. I can't go into detail, but that's the incident Rohit is referring to."
Rohit humorously noted, "The moral of the story is that he can be quite stubborn. We warned him not to go out after 9 PM in the West Indies."
The camaraderie between Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara blossomed during the 2006 Under-19 World Cup and has persisted off the field. Despite not playing a Test together in 2021, their mutual respect remains evident. Rohit has publicly stated that Pujara has not retired, highlighting their enduring friendship. Although Rohit had limited opportunities to bat alongside Ajinkya Rahane early in his career, both players have significantly contributed to the strength of Indian cricket.
