The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of major changes in the weather in the next few hours for many parts of the country, especially North India. There is a possibility of strong thunderstorms along with heavy rains in many states including Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
According to the IMD forecast, strong winds with a speed of 60 to 80 kmph can blow in these areas. There will be rain accompanied by thunder and lightning and hailstorm is also expected at some places. The Meteorological Department has said that these are pre-monsoon activities.
These activities can have a greater impact in Delhi-NCR from midnight to morning. There is also a possibility of dust storm and lightning, which can affect normal life.
This strong and changing weather can cause many problems, for which citizens should be prepared:
Power supply: Strong winds and storms can cause downed power poles and wires, causing power outages or prolonged disruptions.
Traffic: Traffic on roads can be badly affected due to storm, rain and waterlogging. Due to low visibility, the speed of vehicles will slow down and traffic jams can occur.
Damage: Weak or kutcha houses, trees, hoardings and temporary structures may suffer heavy damage. Standing crops are also likely to be damaged.
Visibility: Dust storms and heavy rain will reduce visibility considerably, which may cause problems in driving.
The Meteorological Department has appealed to people to be cautious and ensure safety:
Do not leave the house unless necessary and avoid travelling.
People living in weak and kutcha houses should move to safer places.
Stay away from trees and electric poles.
Ignore rumours and trust only official information.
It is very important to be alert at this time so that any kind of loss or accident can be avoided.
