I've been to several times, but when it comes to the perfect , there's only one place I keep coming back to: Walton-on-the-Naze. This charming town is just a 30-minute drive from where I live, and I go at least 10 times a year.

There are closer to home, but if I want that classic , Walton is where I go. It has everything I could ask for, from a huge to an arcade that honestly puts Brighton's to shame. Walton-on-the-Naze is part of the parish of Frinton and Walton in the Tendring district, sitting north of Clacton and south of the port of Harwich.

The town's name comes from the nearby Naze headland, an unspoilt stretch of cliffs, heath, and beach that adds something really special to any visit.

The main draw for many people, including me, is the pier. It's the third longest in the UK and stretches for more than half a mile. And it's packed with things to do.

There are funfair rides, bowling lanes with light shows, escape rooms, and a family arcade that stretches 110 metres.

The arcade is probably my favourite bit. It's full of everything from 2p machines and ticket games to state-of-the-art video games.

Unlike Brighton, there are no huge queues. You can just walk in, play, and actually enjoy yourself.

There's also an adult gaming section and cash bingo for those who want to try their luck.

Of course, the beach itself is fantastic. It's a wide stretch of soft sand perfect for building sandcastles, with wooden groynes dividing the bay.

The water is safe for swimming, and there are lifeguards on duty in the summer. Even on the warmest days, it never feels too crowded, which makes it even more relaxing.

There's also no shortage of places to eat, with fish and chip shops, beachside cafes, and even a pie and mash shop in town.

And if you're into shopping, there are loads of independent shops along the high street.

But what really makes Walton stand out for me is how peaceful it can be.

Just a 10-minute walk out of town takes you to the Naze Nature Reserve.

There you'll find towering cliffs, open fields, and incredible views over the North Sea and the port of Harwich.

It's also a great spot for birdwatching and fossil hunting as the area is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and fossils like shark teeth and even mammoth remains have been found there.

Sitting right in the middle of the nature reserve is the Naze Tower.

Built in the 18th century, it was originally used to guide ships through tricky waters.

These days, it's an art gallery spread over six floors, offering new exhibitions throughout the year and a viewing platform with some of the best coastal views in Essex.

Despite its popularity, Walton-on-the-Naze has never lost its charm.

It feels like a proper British seaside town without the crowds or chaos. It has the atmosphere, the attractions, and the natural beauty that, for me, beats Brighton every time.
