A report was forced to cut short after the presenter was confronted by a man live on air as she reported on a school shooting. Molly McBride presented to the camera during a live report on recent shootings in the area, and was accosted by a man who repeatedly asked for $1, with the camera then being left focused on the empty parking lot.
As Molly was seen walking off camera, the Las Vegas Fox affiliate's anchors was forced to move on as they promised viewers they would check on Molly immediately as she was "having some interactions". News director Tom Bell told TVSpy, the man "briefly made contact with her then ran off." He said: "Molly was not hurt, just startled. The incident occurred in seconds. She said when she looked back at the tape, it looked scarier than it was in real life," said Bell. "When she returned to the station, she was more focused on and appreciative of how concerned we were about her, vs the actual encounter."
The video is now going viral on X, formerly known as Twitter, with viewers rushing to ask if Molly was okay.
One asked: "Why didn't the cameraman intervene and help her out?" as another replied: "You don't know if he didn't! The camera man moved within a few seconds. He could have been going after the man."
Another asked: "Did the cameraman help her, or just kept rolling so he could sell the video of what happened next?"
A third jokingly asked: "Good god man! Did he get the dollar??" A fourth said: "What was he thinking?"
Many other viewers took to Reddit to comment on how it can be dangerous for presenters to do on-location reports solo.
One said: "Very risky doing live solo segments. I give those field reporters a ton of credit for doing these things. Yes, it's their job, however the world today is crazy and unpredictable."
Another added: "S**t like this is why I hate live for sake of being live if a shooting just happened somewhere but cops have cleared the scene . Adds absolutely nothing and just opens up risk to something like this or worse."
