As June comes into full swing and the sun sunshine lures us outdoors, more of us will be heading to make the most of it by heading to the sea but there is nothing more frustrating than travelling for a couple of hours to the just to find yourself having to squeeze yourself like sardines along the beach, with your neighbour's towel right on top of yours. Laura Miller, Group Head of Marketing at , one of the UK's most popular holiday park operators, has shared five of England's quietest to visit without the crowd. According to the expert, this secluded beach offers a tranquil alternative to Weymouth Beach in which attracts a staggering 3.7 million visitors every year, according to Weymouth Council.
Located between Weymouth and Lulworth Cove, Ringstead Bay has stunning crystal-clear waters and untouched natural beauty, making it the perfect tranquil retreat from the crowds on a sunny day. Set along the Jurassic Coast within the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it is also renowned for its rich fossil deposits and unspoiled environment.
Coming in second is Greenwich Bay in Yorkshire, a much quieter alternative to more popular nearby beaches. This hidden gem near Filey offers stunning rugged cliffs, fascinating rock pools, and a serene atmosphere ideal for those seeking solitude by the sea.
In third place is Church Ope Cove in Dorset. Surrounded by dramatic cliffs, this unique beach is steeped in history and used to be a famous smuggling beach. Here, you'll find crystal-clear waters accompanied by a pirate's grave, the ancient ruins of St Andrew's Church, from the 14th century and you'll walk by not one but two castles. One is the Pennsylvania Castle Estate, and the other is the Rufus Castle.
Next is Pedn Vounder Beach in Cornwall, a breathtaking natural spot accessible only by foot or boat. With its turquoise waters and pristine white sands on the southern coast of the Penwith Peninsula, it's a true coastal paradise. Fans of the TV adaptation of Poldark may recognise it as well after being featured in a dream sequence set at 'Nampara Cove'.
Finally, Birling Gap ranks as the fifth quietest and most secluded beach in England. Known for its golden sands and rolling dunes, it offers a peaceful alternative to the often-crowded Camber Sands, perfect for a relaxing day by the sea.
One person wrote about Ringstead Bay on TripAdvisor: "I go here a lot. It's a fantastic choice for a quiet beach and a perfect swim. In summer, you could honestly believe you were on an island holiday, as it is so balmy and the sea is so blue.
"The reef creates a very calm lagoon which is perfect for swimming in as it rarely ever gets rough here. The water has a 3/3 rating for cleanliness and is crystal clear if you pick a calm day. You can snorkel and see all sorts of fish!"
Laura Miller, Group Head of Marketing at Away Resorts, said: "As overtourism continues to impact popular destinations worldwide, many travellers are seeking alternatives that offer a more authentic and peaceful experience.
"England's quieter beaches provide the perfect solution, allowing visitors to unwind, explore unspoiled landscapes, and enjoy coastal charm without the hustle and bustle of crowded hotspots.
"Whether you're after scenic walks, wildlife spotting, or simply some time to relax by the sea, these lesser-known beaches are ideal for a refreshing and stress-free summer getaway."
