A nine-year-old girl and man have died in a house fire in West Yorkshire. A second girl, 11, is fighting for life after police were called to reports of the blaze at a property in Russell Close, Heckmondwike, on Sunday (June 8).
The girls were both taken to hospital for treatment. The man died at the scene despite the efforts of the emergency services.
According to West Yorkshire Police, the nine-year-old girl died in hospital later on Sunday.
Det Insp Paul Greatorex said: "We are continuing to work with colleagues at the fire service to investigate this dreadfully sad incident which has resulted in a father and daughter losing their lives."
He added: "Extensive" enquiries have been ongoing since yesterday and we have been working to locate and support relatives of the victims both here and outside the UK at what is clearly an awful time for the family."
Mr Greatorex said while the police enquiries remain ongoing officers don't believe there are any suspicious circumstances as to the cause of the fire.
He said police will be preparing a file for the coroner in due course, adding: "Our support for the family involved clearly also still continues."
