Karate Kid: Legends is proving to be a formidable force at the box office, solidifying its place as a worthy successor in the beloved martial arts franchise. The sixth film in the Karate Kid universe stars Ben Wang as Li Fong, with franchise veterans Jackie Chan returning as Mr. Han and Ralph Macchio reprising his role as Daniel LaRusso. Serving as both a sequel to the 2010 reboot and a continuation of the Cobra Kai TV series, the film is resonating with audiences worldwide.

According to Variety, Legends is on track to surpass $35 million at the domestic box office by the end of its second weekend. Despite a 57% drop in earnings and stiff competition from titles like Lilo & Stitch, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, and Final Destination: Bloodlines, the movie still managed a solid $8.7 million this weekend. That puts it within striking distance of overtaking The Karate Kid Part III, making it the fourth-highest-grossing installment in franchise history.

The film’s modest $40 million budget is working in its favor. With an international opening of $26 million, and more global earnings expected, Legends is on a promising path toward its estimated $100 million break-even point, factoring in marketing and distribution costs.

Critically, the film has received mixed reviews, but audience reception has been overwhelmingly positive, boasting a 91% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. ScreenRant described the movie as “genuinely charismatic” and “crowd-pleasing.”
