Corruption Case Involving IAS Officer in Odisha

On Sunday, the Odisha Vigilance Department apprehended IAS officer Dhiman Chakma from the 2021 batch for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10 lakh. Chakma, who serves as the sub-collector in Kalahandi district, reportedly demanded ₹20 lakh from a local businessman and was in the process of accepting a portion of the bribe. The businessman who filed the complaint claimed that the IAS officer threatened to take action against his business if he did not comply with the payment request.

Details of the Bribery Incident

According to the complaint, the sub-collector summoned the businessman to his official residence in Dharamgarh, where he accepted the bribe and stored the money in a drawer of his desk. The officer allegedly counted all 26 bundles of ₹100 notes and then placed the cash inside the drawer of his office desk. During a search of his official residence, the vigilance department also recovered approximately ₹47 lakh in cash.

Legal Action Taken Against the Officer

Following the arrest of the IAS officer and the recovery of cash from his residence, a case has been registered against him under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Authorities have indicated that further investigations into the matter are ongoing.
