Traffic was held on the A19 in both directions due to a police incident.

Vehicles driving from A189 (Moor Farm Roundabout, Annitsford) to A1056 Killingworth Way (Killingworth junction, Killingworth) were held for around half an hour before the incident was resolved.

Northumbria police contradicted earlier reports that suggest a collision had taken place, insisting that the police incident related to another matter which was subsequently resolved.

Following the reopening of the road, traffic was still present, with National Highways indicating that they expected delays of around 30 minutes.
