Reuben Owen found himself in a festive fix during the latest episode of : Life in the Dales after driving his car into a ditch and being forced to call for help. The 21-year-old, who shot to fame alongside parents and Clive and his eight siblings in 's , now stars in his own spin-off show documenting life on and off the family's 2,000-acre property. In Tuesday night's episode, Reuben was preparing for Christmas, tasked with delivering a giant tree to a local market town ahead of the big lights switch-on.
But things took a turn when a test drive across the farm with his 13-year-old brother Sid ended with his three-tonne cruiser stuck fast in a hidden ditch. "I just felt us go very low, very fast!" Reuben exclaimed, realising he'd strayed into one of the notorious boggy traps on the land. Attempting to reverse his way out, the young farmer laughed through the chaos, but quickly admitted defeat: "Oh dear, that is not ideal."
Despite warnings that off-roading might not be a wise idea, Reuben brushed it off: "What the hell is going to happen?"
Moments later, he had his answer as the cruiser slipped into what the show's narrator called a "deep bog" - the same kind of terrain "responsible for the demise of many a poor sheep".
Initial attempts to push the vehicle out by hand failed, with Reuben and his team unable to budge the stranded truck.
Eventually, Reuben called in reinforcements, phoning his younger brother Miles to bail him out. "We are stuck, would you come and rescue me please?" he asked, jokingly waiting for "salvation" to arrive.
Once the family rally was complete and the car back on solid ground, Reuben reflected on how much his close-knit crew means to the business.
"This year brings us to the fourth year in business and it's been great fun," he said.
"Miles has come up a lot and hopefully his role will be even bigger next year and Sid is doing what he can, I never thought I'd end up with my mates and brothers working for me."
Away from the farm drama, Reuben revealed girlfriend Jessica Ellwood is "the one" after eight months of dating.
"She is brilliant, a really smiley character and we get on well," he told . "Right from the moment I met her, she was so happy. Jess is great, she takes everything in her stride."
Reuben, the second eldest of Amanda and Clive's nine children, admitted he's unsure about matching his parents' super-sized brood. "I don't know if I want as many! I think I would lose them!" he joked.
The young farmer also revealed both Amanda and Clive, who split in 2022 after 22 years of marriage, have given Jess their full approval.
Asked if he sees a future with her, Reuben said: "Yeah definitely. It was a no-brainer when I met Jess."
